Overview of Our Peacebuilding and Social Cohesion

Peacebuilding is Essential for Long-Term Recovery

Decades of conflict, displacement, political instability, and social divisions have deeply affected communities across Somalia. Sustainable development cannot be achieved without peace, trust, inclusion, and strengthened social cohesion.

HLDI recognizes that peacebuilding is essential for long-term recovery, resilience, and community stability. Our Peacebuilding and Social Cohesion Programme promotes peaceful coexistence, inclusive dialogue, conflict prevention, and community-driven reconciliation initiatives.

Using a Humanitarian–Development–Peace (HDP) Nexus approach, HLDI works to address the root causes of conflict while strengthening local capacities for peace, cooperation, and inclusive governance.

What We Do

HLDI works with communities, youth, women, elders, religious leaders, government institutions, and civil society organizations to strengthen social cohesion and support peaceful conflict resolution.

Our peacebuilding work focuses on:

The Impact

HLDI’s peacebuilding initiatives have strengthened relationships between communities, improved dialogue and trust, increased youth and women participation in local peace processes, and contributed to more inclusive and peaceful communities across Somalia
