Established in 2010 in Somalia and later registered in Kenya in 2018, HLDI has grown into a Trusted Humanitarian and Development Organization With Operational Presence Across All Federal Member States Of Somalia.
We are guided by the principles of:
HLDI implements integrated humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding programs designed to strengthen resilience, improve access to essential services, and empower communities.
We implement comprehensive nutrition interventions aimed at preventing, identifying, and treating malnutrition while strengthening community awareness and increasing resilience.
Our interventions have strengthened local health systems, improved maternal and child health outcomes, increased immunization awareness, and enhanced community capacity.
HLDI works with communities, youth, women, elders, religious leaders, government institutions, and civil society organizations to strengthen social cohesion and support peaceful conflict resolution.
HLDI’s women empowerment programs have strengthened women’s participation in decision-making, improved economic opportunities, and promoted gender equality and social inclusion across communities.
We work to ensure that vulnerable learners — including girls, displaced children, children with disabilities, and marginalized groups — can access education in safe and supportive learning environments.
HLDI’s Food Security and Livelihoods Programme aims to strengthen household resilience, improve food security, and create sustainable income-generating opportunities for vulnerable populations.
Our shelter interventions have improved living conditions, safety, and dignity for vulnerable and displaced populations, enabling families to rebuild their lives and recover from crises.
HLDI’s WASH interventions have significantly improved access to safe water and sanitation services while reducing hygiene-related diseases and improving community health outcomes.
HLDI’s environmental interventions have improved resilience to climate shocks, expanded access to renewable energy, and promoted environmentally sustainable practices in vulnerable communities.
HLDI believes that sustainable development can only be achieved by addressing humanitarian needs, strengthening resilience, and promoting peace simultaneously. Our Humanitarian–Development–Peace (HDP) Nexus approach enables us to:
HLDI combines strong local presence with technical expertise and strategic partnerships to deliver effective humanitarian and development programs across Somalia.
We successfully completed a free eye surgery project aimed at restoring vision and improving the quality of life for people in need.
We did a tailoring skills training program aimed at empowering individuals with practical sewing and garment-making skills.
We conducted a peace-building training program focused on promoting unity, understanding, and conflict resolution within the community.
HLDI conducted a Women Empowerment Program aimed at strengthening the confidence, skills, and independence of women in the community.
We successfully organized a community cleaning activity to promote cleanliness, environmental awareness, proper waste management and public health.
Our Youth Empowerment Program focused on inspiring and equipping young people with valuable skills, leadership qualities, and confidence for a better future.
Before the free eye surgery program, I struggled to see clearly and could not work properly to support my family. Thanks to the HLDI and the medical team, my vision has improved, and my life has changed completely. I am very grateful for this support given to the people of Somalia.
The peace building training done by HLDI taught us the importance of dialogue, unity, and understanding within our community. I learned how to resolve conflicts peacefully and encourage cooperation among young people. This program brought hope and stronger relationships to our community in Baidoa.
Through the women empowerment program, I gained confidence, new skills, and the courage to start my own small business. The training helped me become financially independent and more active in my community. I thank the HLDI team for supporting Somali women and creating opportunities for a better future.
Your support helps us deliver life-changing programs in healthcare, peace building, and women empowerment across Somalia.
