The brush clearance and community engagement project was borne out of an early situational assessment conducted in April 2020 by NIS-Foundation that established the roads leading into and out of Janaale which were initially under the control by Al-shabaab militants are inaccessible for civilian movement, unsafe for transport of goods and services as well as of government staff and stabilization partners. During the situational assessment, the community members expressed their willingness to participate and contribute to stabilization efforts but at the same time also expressed concern that on the many occasions they have participated in such kinds of assessment, no interventions have been undertaken.
Purpose
The purpose of the project to clear overgrown brushes along two roads into and out of Janaale which is part of the Daryeel program which aims at undertaking recovery and reconstruction activities in newly liberated areas. Janaale town was identified as one of the recently recovered areas from Al-Shabaab (AS) control on March 16, 2020 and is of strategic importance to the Federal Government of Somalia as it is the passage way to the liberation of other towns/villages the region.
